Michael Cokins

Michael Cokins, a Houston native, graduated from Lamar High School in 1997, where he excelled in both academics and athletics, lettering in baseball and basketball. He was also an active participant in the drama club. While still in high school, Michael began working at Memorial Golf Club. This job would introduce him to professional golf and shape his future. After starting in the clubhouse, he was promoted to caddy in 1998, where he learned strategic thinking and interacted with prominent golf professionals.

1999 Michael attended the University of Houston, graduating in 2003 with a B.S. in Business Administration. While at UH, he was involved in leadership programs like LeadUH and the Ignite Leadership Program and continued to play golf, becoming an active member of the Golf Club of Houston.

Following graduation, Michael accepted a role as general manager of Golden Corral in New Orleans, managing 70 employees and overseeing local marketing efforts. However, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 forced the restaurant to close. After returning to Houston, Michael devoted nine months to volunteer work with HandsOn New Orleans, assisting families affected by the disaster. During this time, he developed connections with insurance executives. He transitioned into a career as a claims adjuster for State Farm in 2007.

In 2015, Michael returned to Houston and joined the State Farm Corporate & Business Development team. His career flourished under the mentorship of a seasoned professional, which he credits for much of his success. In 2021, Michael was promoted to Claims and Investigations, where he continues to help individuals recover from crises. The role allows him to travel, meet new people, and pursue his passion for golf on some of the most renowned courses across the U.S.
